Sales quote

A written offer stating what you’d sell, at what price and until when. What it contains, and how it differs from an invoice.

A sales quote is a written offer: what you’d sell, at what price, on what terms and until when. It comes before the sale, whereas an invoice records one that happened. Once accepted, it can bind both parties, depending on the law that applies.

A clear quote names the seller and the buyer, has a reference and two dates, sets out its lines with their tax rates, and gives the totals. We wrote about what to put on one. In some activities in France it is mandatory. This is general information, not legal advice.
