Model Context Protocol (MCP)
An open standard for connecting AI applications such as Claude or ChatGPT to external systems, so they can read data and use tools on your behalf.
The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is, in its documentation’s words, “an open-source standard for connecting AI applications to external systems”. An application such as a CRM offers an MCP server that describes its tools, and an assistant such as Claude or ChatGPT can call them on your behalf.
For a user it’s a connector: add an address, sign in, approve. What matters is which tools it offers and which it doesn’t, since an assistant also reads text written by strangers. We wrote about what to check before connecting one. Soldlyne’s MCP server is at /api/mcp.
